What a treat in store for the
spectators at this grand finale to an exciting weekend of
curling.
The two championship games were close fought efforts, one
decided by an extra end steal, the other might have also
led to overtime.
Rachel Homan and her third, Emma Miskew, were both in their
ninth and last year of competition in the SuperSpiel, and had
already won the event in 2006 when they beat the Scottish men's
team in the final of what was an integrated event at the time.
Today's match against Clancy Grandy might have gone either way
until the ninth end when Homan took two, putting her up one
without the hammer coming home. However, perfect execution by
the whole team allowed them to steal the end and seal the
victory. The team had a perfect record in this competition,
including their win over the Men's champions in the Battle of
the Sexes skins game. Certainly this was a grand way to
end their participation in this event. Congratulations to Lynn
Kreviazuk, Laura Crocker, Emma Miskew and Rachel Homan on their
win.
It was just as tough a game for Connor Duhaime and his
Peterborough rink to win. They had to fight for every point but
were able to prevail only at the very end. They tied the game
with a single in the ninth and managed to protect a counter to
steal the victory point in the extra end. For Neil
Sinclair and his team this had to be very disappointing as this
was their second defeat in the final of this event. Duhaime and
teammates Jeff Inglis, Rob Collins, Michael Kean and Josh
Billing were full value for the win having a perfect record
against the men, including an earlier 5-3 victory over Sinclair
in the A final. Congratulations!
Thanks to Gerry Geurts of the Curling Zone, for allowing us to
post our results using his facilities. It made it a joy for the
fans and Gerry's help made it easy for our volunteers to keep up
the scores. The results are still posted at
2009 draw. The
results are also available in an
excel file.
